Suitability

Moderate. Self guided walking or cycling requires individuals to use problem solving skills, be adaptable and have a keen eye. It is recommended that you are comfortable map reading, referring to route notes and that you have a good sense of direction (or are willing to work on improving this!). This trip is best suited for hikers with a moderate level of fitness who are comfortable walking 5–7 miles per day on well-marked but often uneven desert trails. Daily hikes range from 5 to 7 miles with approximately 1,000 feet of elevation gain, and include a mix of rocky, sometimes exposed terrain and slick-rock canyon paths. Trails are primarily packed dirt with occasional rock shelves and steep, uneven steps, typical of Sedona’s red rock landscape. Along our route you will also do some strolling through the town of Sedona itself and its quaint neighborhoods. You’ll carry only a daypack each day, as luggage is transferred for you between accommodations. While no technical hiking experience is required, sure footing, sun protection, and an appreciation for warm, dry conditions will make for a more enjoyable experience. An optional rest day mid-trip offers time to relax or explore at a gentler pace.
