Itinerary

Meet in Grand Junction and shuttle to Hanskville. After a bike fitting and orientation, your ride unfolds over rolling terrain with minimal climbing, perfect for warming up your legs. As you spin westward, the Henry Mountains rise dramatically to the south, their jagged silhouette a striking contrast to the badlands below. The route winds through expansive desert scenery, with mesas, buttes, and streaks of crimson and gold sandstone guiding your path. Choose whether to take the optional shuttle in Fruita before the day’s biggest climb, ending your ride at about 35 miles, or continue all the way to Torrey for the full mileage. By late afternoon, you'll arrive in the charming town of Torrey, located at the edge of Capitol Reef National Park. Once there, you might choose to kick back at your cozy inn, linger over coffee at a local café, or stretch your legs with an optional evening stroll beneath the broad Utah sky, often painted with some of the most stunning sunsets in the Southwest. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ • Overnight - Red Sands Hotel and Spa or similar • Cycling: 35–47 mi / 56–76 km, Elevation gain: 1,850–4,000 ft / 560–1,220 m • Van Transfer - 2.5 hrs.

After leaving Torrey, the route offers scenic climbs toward the foothills of Boulder Mountain. You’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the plateau. You can also choose to get a boost and bypass the first 15 miles of climbing. The road winds through aspen groves, alpine meadows, and stands of spruce and fir, with glimpses of Capitol Reef’s colorful cliffs behind you. As you gain elevation, enjoy panoramic views of the Waterpocket Fold and distant canyonlands below. At the summit, take a moment to soak in the wide-open skies before beginning your exhilarating descent into Boulder. This small, artsy town is home to a surprising mix of creativity and rustic charm. Stay at the peaceful Boulder Mountain Lodge and enjoy a memorable dinner just steps away at Hell’s Backbone Grill, a beloved farm-to-table restaurant rooted in sustainability and regional flavors. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ • Overnight: Boulder Mountain Lodge or similar • Cycling: 25–37 mi / 40–60 km, Elevation gain: 1,800–4,000 ft / 550–1,220 m

Start your day with a hearty, locally sourced breakfast at Little Bone food truck , think blue corn pancakes, farm eggs, and fresh-roasted coffee, before setting out on one of the most stunning stretches of Highway 12. You’ll ride through groves of pinyon and ponderosa, then perhaps pause at the beloved Kiva Koffeehouse, perched on the edge of a sandstone cliff with panoramic views of the Escalante River Canyon, an ideal mid-ride stop for espresso and house-baked treats. Just beyond, the road narrows to the dramatic Hogsback, a ridgeline where the pavement seems to float between steep slickrock canyons. As you descend toward Escalante, you’ll pass sweeping views of sandstone domes, ancient seabed layers, and the Calf Creek drainage, with glimpses into the wider Escalante Canyons region. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ • Overnight: Canyon Country Lodge or similar • Cycling: 26 mi / 41 km, Elevation gain: 1,900 ft / 550 m

Today’s ride takes you through the sweeping expanse of Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument, where striped cliffs, rugged mesas, and open desert stretch to the horizon. The road climbs gradually across high desert plateaus, winding past weathered rock formations and wide-open ranchlands, with ever-expanding views into Utah’s deep geologic past. As you gain elevation and cross into Dixie National Forest, the landscape shifts once more, pinyon and juniper give way to ponderosa pines and cooler air. Continue a couple of miles past our hotel and enter Bryce Canyon National Park; you’ll be greeted by a surreal landscape of towering hoodoos, fins, and spires, an awe-inspiring sight and a fitting reward after a big day in the saddle. Tonight, rest up at Ruby’s Inn, a historic lodge just outside the park gates that’s been welcoming travelers since 1916. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ • Overnight: Ruby's Inn or similar • Cycling: 30–48 mi / 48–77 km, Elevation gain: 2,000–3,900 ft / 610–1,190 m

This final ride combines peaceful farmland with breathtaking panoramic views of Zion’s dramatic cliffs, making it the perfect way to end your adventure. Suitability

Moderate to Challenging

6

Moderate to Challenging Self guided walking or cycling requires individuals to use problem-solving skills, be adaptable and have a keen eye. It is recommended that you are comfortable map reading, referring to route notes and that you have a good sense of direction (or are willing to work on improving this!). Cyclists will be expected to know how to fix a flat tire and make basic adjustments to their bicycles using the included repair kit. This trip is best suited for experienced recreational cyclists who are comfortable riding 30–50 miles per day over varied terrain. Daily elevation gain ranges from 1,500 to 4,000 feet, with sustained climbs and winding descents common across the route. Roads are paved and typically quiet, though some sections may have minimal shoulder and occasional car traffic. You’ll ride at your own pace with navigation tools provided and carry only a light daypack, as luggage is transferred each day. On some days, optional shuttles can be used to shorten ride distances or reduce elevation gain. Confidence in managing long climbs, variable weather, and remote riding conditions will help ensure a rewarding experience through Utah’s canyon country.
